The Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook took notice of the news and opened their NBA Win Totals betting market for all 30 teams in the league.
2020-21 NBA Contenders
- Milwaukee Bucks 49.5
- Los Angeles Lakers 46.5
- Boston Celtics 45.5
- Los Angeles Clippers 45.5
Of the above four teams, the Los Angeles Lakers were the only one to participate in last year's NBA Finals as they defeated the Miami Heat at the NBA Bubble from Orlando, Florida.
2020-21 NBA Pretenders
- Detroit Pistons 23.5
- Oklahoma City Thunder 22.5
- New York Knicks 22.5
- Cleveland Cavaliers 22.5
Going .500 in this year's regular season would translate to a 36-36 record and the clubs listed above aren't expected to get nowhwere near that record. Coincidentally, all four of these teams are from the Eastern Conference.
Eastern Conference - 2020-21 Win Totals Odds
Listed below are teams from the Eastern Conference and how the oddsmakers project they'll do based on wins for 2020-21 NBA regular season.
The top eight teams in each conference will make the postseason.
- Milwaukee Bucks 49.5
- Boston Celtics 45.5
- Brooklyn Nets 45.5
- Philadelphia 76ers 45.5
- Miami Heat 44.5
- Toronto Raptors 41.5
- Indiana Pacers 39.5
- Atlanta Hawks 36.5
- Washington Wizards 32.5
- Orlando Magic 31.5
- Chicago Bulls 30.5
- Charlotte Hornets 25.5
- Detroit Pistons 23.5
- New York Knicks 22.5
- Cleveland Cavaliers 22.5
The oddsmakers at the SuperBook believe that only seven teams in the Eastern Conference will finish the 2020-21 NBA regular season above .500 (36-36).
Looking at the projections, seven teams appear to be locks to gain a playoff spot while four others (Wizards, Magic, Bulls) will fight for the eighth and final spot.
And then there are the Pretenders listed above.
Western Conference - 2020-21 Win Totals Odds
Listed below are teams from the Western Conference and how the oddsmakers project they'll do based on wins for 2020-21 NBA regular season.
The top eight teams in each conference will make the postseason.
- Los Angeles Lakers 46.5
- Los Angeles Clippers 45.5
- Denver Nuggets 44.5
- Dallas Mavericks 42.5
- Utah Jazz 42.5
- Portland Trail Blazers 41.5
- Phoenix Suns 38.5
- Golden State Warriors 36.5
- New Orleans Pelicans 36.5
- Houston Rockets 34.5
- Memphis Grizzlies 30.5
- San Antonio Spurs 29.5
- Sacramento Kings 27.5
- Minnesota Timberwolves 28.5
- Oklahoma City Thunder 22.5
Of the three divisions in the Western Conference, the Pacific Division is expected to be the most competitive in the NBA 2020-21 regular season. The Lakers (46.5) and Clippers (45.5) are expected to surpass 40 wins. The Warriors were dealt a serious blow in November as star shooter Klay Thompson was lost for the season with an Achilles' tendon tear as their win total dropped to 36.5. The Suns (38.5) have been given a tad more respect after their recent effort in the NBA Bubble last summer and the acquisition of veteran guard Chris Paul.
Seven of the 15 teams in the West are expected to finish better than .500 by the oddsmakers.
How do I read the over/under line?
For example, the Milwaukee Bucks' win total for 2020-21 season is 49.5. If you believe the Bucks will finish 49-23 or worse, taking the 'under' is the play. For 'over' bettors, the Bucks would have to finish with 50-plus wins to cash tickets.
NBA Win Totals are available for all 30 teams in the league and placing 'over/under' wagers on their season production in the regular season is a great way to follow a team all season.
For the 2020-21 regular season, all teams must play 72 regular season games for the NBA Win Total wagers to be considered live wagers or what's known in the industry as 'Action.' The NBA Win Totals Odds set do not include postseason games.
Unfortunately due to the Coronavirus pandemic, bettors with active Win Total wagers could see their bets refunded since the regular season may not return or be reduced. At the same time, losing wagers will also be refunded.

The Golden State Warriors are the Las Vegas favorites to win the NBA championship, but LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers still have the sportsbooks' attention.
Heading into the final two months of the regular season, more money has been bet on the Warriors to win the title than any other team at William Hill's sportsbook in Nevada, where Golden State is listed at plus-240, or 12-5. The Cavaliers are next at 3-1, followed by the San Antonio Spurs (13-2) and the Atlanta Hawks (7-1).
In June, when the books began putting up odds to win the 2015 championship, the Cavaliers were listed as high as 60-1. Soon after, rumors of James' interest in returning to Cleveland surfaced, and bets started to come in on the Cavaliers. The MGM took a $1,000 bet on the Cavs when they were 40-1 before James' decision to leave the Miami Heat and head back to Cleveland. After his return was made official, the Cavs were anointed the favorites to win the title, leaving the books with some liability.
Despite an uneven start -- Cleveland was 19-20 after a loss to Phoenix on Jan. 19 -- the Cavaliers remained near the top of the championship odds. At 7-2, Cleveland remains the favorite at the Westgate SuperBook, listed just ahead of the Warriors at 4-1.
The majority of books have Golden State as the favorite, though, including the MGM, CG Technology and William Hill. The Warriors opened at 15-1 at William Hill. Fourteen percent of money wagered on William Hill's NBA futures pool is on Golden State, according to numbers provided by the book. The defending champion Spurs have attracted 12 percent of the action, followed by the Cavs at 11 percent.
The Warriors were 13.5-point home favorites when they knocked off a Cleveland team without James, 112-94. on Jan. 9. The two favorites meet for the last time in the regular season Feb. 26 in Cleveland.
A handful of teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers, have been eliminated from contention on the SuperBook's title odds, but not before some bettors were able to take a chance on the ultimate fliers. The SuperBook took seven bets on the Sixers to win the championship at odds of 1,000-1 and greater. Nineteen bettors took a stab on the Knicks winning it all. They opened around 40-1, but were listed at 9,999-1 by Jan. 1.
Cleveland Odds To Win Nba Championship 2021
There were 66 bets on the Lakers to win the championship at the SuperBook before they were removed from consideration. Only five teams have received more bets than the Lakers, who have attracted more championship wagers than the Los Angeles Clippers, according to SuperBook assistant manager and head NBA oddsmaker Jeff Sherman.
The lowly Knicks (10-44) are the only team guaranteed not to reach their projected season win total in Vegas. The over/under on the Knicks' wins was set at 40 in October at the SuperBook.
The surprising Milwaukee Bucks (30-23) were the only team to eclipse their season win total by the All-Star break. The SuperBook had the Bucks' win total at 24.5.
The Hawks, owners of the best record in the Eastern Conference and the best record against the spread (36-17 ATS), matched their win total projection of 43 at the All-Star break.

The Denver Nuggets, at 20-30-3 against the spread, were the worst bet before the All-Star break.
